Fridays Are For One Question

On the wall on my office hang 2 piece of plywood. On there, I use a Sharpie to write quotes that I think are particularly meaningful. And here’s my thing about quotes – I don’t have to agree with everything the person says to like this one, little nugget of truth.

I think I’ve got a pretty diverse group on there. I’ve got a quote from Rocky Balboa next to one from Anne Lamott next to GK Chesterson Next to Martin Luther next to Ralph Waldo Emerson next to Albert Einstein next to John Calvin next to M Night Shylaman. Ecclectic, I know.

But that’s the nature of today’s question:

“What one quote would you frame and hang in your home or your office?”

It’ll seem irreverent, but I’ll explain below.
    First, the quote:

“Wow, I wish I could speak Whale.” ~Dory, Finding Nemo

Here’s the reason. Dory had a short term memory problem. And, in fact, Dory COULD speak Whale. She’s the one who got the Whale’s attention in the first place. And here’s why I would put that on my quote wall. Paul reminds us that we “can do all things through Christ, who strengthens” us. But so often, like Dory, we forget that. We tend to focus on what we can’t do (or think we can’t do), and let that stop us from being bold witnesses and servants in the world.

I had this one on my mirror (the place I write quotes) forever:

Life is a dance toward God. And the dance is not so graceful as we might want. While we glide and swing our practiced sway, God crowds our feet, bumps our toes, and scuffs our shoes. So we learn to dance with the One who made us.
    ~Donald Miller

The one that’s up there right now:

O Love that will not let me go
I rest my weary soul in thee
I give thee back the life I owe
That in thine ocean depths its flow
    May richer, fuller be
