I’m typing this from Myrrle Beach, SC while my children are on the balcony squawking at sea gulls. I told them to hold up a piece of bread and see what happens. Perhaps that was a mistake.

Regardless I have heard there are two kinds of people: mountain people and beach people. I think I may be slowly moving toward beach but that’s the question for you today:

“Mountains or beach?”

One of my goals in 2012 is to read more. More often, and more quantity (though if the Mayans were right, it’s not going to matter too much. But I digress…)

Yes, reading. My older son shames me with his commitment to books. He’ll knock out a “Magic Treehouse” adventure novel in about 2 days. Me? It took me two weeks to read The Hunger Games. But I’m working on it.

Right now, I’ve got a copy of the Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson which, by all accounts, is very long and very good. But I wondered today if we might share some recommendations.

Today’s question is about that one book that you love to give away. The one you will always talk about. The one you would recommend under most any circumstance:

I think the Superbowl commercial thing may have just gone to a new level. Vokswagen, who last year had the phenomenal commercial with the kid using the force to start the car, has released a TEASER for their Superbowl commercial.

It’s a trailer for a commercial.

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. But seriously – watch this first:

Ever had a Twitter misfire? You know what that is – it’s an ill advised status update, one made without thinking, or one with unfortunate typographical errors. Ever done that?

I have. Yesterday. If you were following me on Twitter, you’d know that I was at Passion 2012 this week, an amazing conference where college students – poor, college students – gave over 3 million dollars over the course of 3 days to make a significant dent in ending slavery in the 21st century.

But, thanks to my fat fingers and the wonderful autocorrect feature on my Iphone, I ended up tweeting the following:

“Just saw poor college students give over $3 million to end ham trafficking.”

Yes, we gave sacrificially to create free ham. Fail.

So today’s question is in that regard:

“What’s your worst Twitter / Facebook misfire?”

You guessed it – the one question today is about New Year’s resolutions. I’m actually a big fan of resolutions (I like “goals” better). You can read here about that, but for today, let’s keep it simple.

All of us have a list a mile long of bad goals we’ve made at New Year’s. Crazy things.

- I’m not going to eat chocolate this year.

- I’m going to climb Everest this year.

- I’m going to remodel my own kitchen this year.

But let’s not talk “bad” – let’s talk “worst”:

Confession time – I’ve been listening to Christmas music since the second week in November.

There. I said it. And I’m okay with it, because I LOVE CHRISTMAS MUSIC.

I recognize, however, that there are two kinds of Christmas music:

Good and bad. So let’s focus on the second today:

This week, it was announced due to impassable negotiations between the NBA Players and the NBA owners that much of the basketball season has already been lost.

Gasp!

I confess here – and maybe I’m going to get reamed for this – I literally could not care any less than I do about this. If this were football that would be one thing. If this affected the NCAA basketball tournament that would be one thing. But it makes absolutely no difference to me whether or not the pros play basketball.

Am I alone? That’s what I’m wondering for today’s question:

“How much do you care that we might not have NBA basketball this season?”

I read a story this week about a national monument in Germany that sounds incredibly intriguing and moving. It’s in the city of Dresden. On February 13, 1945, during the final stages of WWII, large air raids, conducted by Allied Forces virtually flattened the old town of Dresden.

25,000 civilians were killed.

Rather than erecting an actual structure, there is a simple terrace which allows those leaning against it to look out on the old town. By leaning onto the railing of the terrace with the elbows placed on the railing and the hands covering the ears, visitors are able to hear sounds, transported from the railing via bone conduction.

The emanating sounds enable visitors to hear the noises of howling airplanes and detonating bombs. Without standing in this exact position, it is not possible to hear the sounds. The position, which is necessary to hear the noises, resemble people covering their ears to protect them from the deafening noises of the dropped bombs as many did during the actual bombing.

Pretty amazing, and it leads to today’s question:
